KUALA LUMPUR: Teong Teck Lean has resigned as chief executive officer of GD Express Carrier Bhd (GDex), paving the way for his former deputy chief executive Leong Chee Tong to assume the position as part of the company’s succession plan.

In a statement yesterday, the company said the change would allow Teong, who remains as executive deputy chairman, to focus on the strategic planning of the group.

Teong had in 2000 acquired a 70% stake in GDex and has been widely credited with its turnaround, which was followed by its listing on the Mesdaq board in May 2005.

Leong joined GDex in 2000 and had also played a key role in its turnaround, the company said.
