Hino has started 2018 with a bang. Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia), or just Hino, together with their customer, courier company GD Express Sdn Bhd (GDEX) held a small ceremony earlier today where they announced interesting news for those that are following the commercial vehicle sector. First is the sale of 300 units of their HINO 300 series trucks to GDEX, then announcing their No.1 status in the 2017 vehicle sales category for Light Commercial Vehicle, Medium to Heavy Commercial Vehicle and the bus category. Finally, they presented Certificates to GDEX recognising the reliability of four units of GDEX Hino trucks that have 1 million km mileage without the need for any engine overhaul.

This has been quite an amazing piece of news for both Hino and also GDEX. There seems to be a very good working relationship between the parties as both acknowledge their part in making the business between them a sustainable and long term one. Last year, Hino delivered 200 units of the then newly launched 300 Series of trucks to GDEX and the addition of this latest order shows GDEX’s confidence in the brand to carry its cargo and deliveries all around Malaysia. To date, GDEX have around 578 units of Hino trucks in their fleet which represents 60% of their total fleet. The addition of the 300 units of 300 series trucks would be a massive boost to the logistics of GDEX (we do hope there isn’t a shortage of drivers after this!).
According to the parties herein, the big requirement for new trucks is due to the huge jump in the e-commerce sector. With online sales booming, we have noted that people are buying more and more stuff from online stores rather than going to the shops. This has enabled courier services to get more business. Even the government of Malaysia predicts total sales of RM114Billion through e-commerce. It is no wonder companies like GDEX are expanding their resources to cope with the increase. GDEX is now ensuring that its fleet and its 16 branches can take advantage of the current trend and will expand to suit the uprise in trade of this sort.
Now as for the sales performance of Hino here in Malaysia, the commercial vehicle company is actually the market leader in terms of sales in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV 4-wheeler), Medium to Heavy Commercial Vehicle (MHCV) and Bus categories. This was as reported by Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). Hino is now looking forward to further success in 2018 and this sales coup for 300 trucks to GDEX is a good start to the year.
The aim for 2018 is for the brand to progress even further with the Hino Total Support programme as one of the tools to achieve this goal. The Hino Total Support will cover all sectors from the extensive range of vehicles – which Hino have so far done with the newly improved 300 and 500 series of trucks launched last year and also the opening of new Hino Total Support Customer Center (HTSCC) – Malaysia’s only training center specially for the Commercial Vehicle industry and also Hino’s 1st training circuit operated outside of Japan.
Hino Malaysia is positive to increase performance not only in Sales but also After-Sales Services where they will also upgrade many of their dealership networks to full 3S centres. With this upgrades and training, Hino would be capable of producing 10,000 vehicles and training several thousand drivers every year locally and be a key player in the transport industry.
One of the key reasons GDEX opted for such a large fleet purchase aside from the product it the aftersales package. Hino have aimed to minimize vehicle downtime, thereby reducing GDEX operational costs and giving them more exclusive warranty satisfaction such as the “Free Parts Program” and “Free Service Program” as well as other extras such as ‘Best-Fit’ program, ‘Free Service Campaign’ and more upcoming activities which could give customer added benefits after-sales. With a large sale of 300 units, it is possible to tailor make a package to suit GDEX in nearly every way. The package may include special pricing and after sales package that differs from the usual warranty and maintenance packages.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Ken Iwamoto together with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of GDEX, Mr. Teong Teck Lean. It was witnessed by Encik Mohamed Zaidi Abdul Karim, Division Head of e-commerce and Postal from Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC); Mr. Masaki Yamauchi, President of Yamato Holdings; management team of GDEX and Hino Motors Sales Malaysia. At the event, Hino also presented 4 Certificate of Reliability to GDEX on one HINO  300 truck and three HINO 500 series of trucks that have accumulated 1 million  km of mileage without the need of any engine overhaul.
The trucks are pictured herein are the 1 million km trucks and they all look well maintained. It goes to show that with any vehicle all that is needed is some proper care and maintenance.
