Can you imagine how much driving your car needs to undergo to rack up 1,000,000 kilometres? 1,000,000 km is equivalent to going around the Earth 25 times. Even if you manage to clock 50,000 km a year (4,167 km a month), it will still take you 20 years.

Of course, trucks are built for heavy duty work and should be able to take a beating. But a truck is only capable of taking that kind of abuse if it is properly maintained. And courier service company, GD Express Sdn Bhd (GDEx) has four such examples in its fleet.

As you can see from the photograph, the trucks look relatively clean and well taken care of.

 

Proper maintenance isn’t just the onus of the vehicle owner, although it does have a significant bearing on how long it lasts, but just as important is the quality of servicing by the after-sales party. Further, how well the drivers treat the vehicle also plays a role in the vehicle’s reliability.

But this is just one factor that affects the profitability of a company. For a business like GDEx that relies on trucks, aside from the savings from not having to buy replacement vehicles, savings from not having to pay for extensive maintenance and repairs, and even savings from fuel costs all add to the bottom line of the business.
