GDex Opens Its Regional Office in Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu: GD Express Sdn Bhd (GDex), one of the domestic express carrier service providers in the country, has opened its regional branch for Sabah to strengthen its position in the East Malaysia state, said its executive director cum chief network development officer, Leong Chee Tong.

“I think there is a big potential here (for GDex) but if you want to tap this potential the first thing is you have to improve yourselves… nowadays customers are very demanding,” he told reporters after opening the ceremony’s regional office in Penampang, near here Tuesday.

There was a need for the company to be near to its customers and to have such office in order to beef up the service and delivery quality among its branches in this state.

At the moment, the company has only one branch in Sandakan while the rest of its branches in Sabah namely in Labuan, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Keningau and Kudat are operated on affiliated basis, he said.

Furthermore, Sabah is geographically different from Peninsular Malaysia, so by having a regional office here GDex would be able to tailor their service according to the customers’ needs, added Leong.

It would also enable the company to listen clearly and to have better understanding on the challenges faced by the customers as well as their branch operators, he said.

Asked on the daily consignments handled by GDex in Sabah, he said roughly about 600 consignments a day with Kota kinabalu alone around 200 to 300.

Leong also said competition was also stiff in Sabah as there were several operatiors like City-Link Express (M) Sdn Bhd, Nationwide Express Courier Service Sdn Bhd and ABX Express (M) Sdn Bhd operating in the state.

Touching on its business nationwide, Leong said GDex which is based in Petaling Jaya has about 10,000 regular customers and it handled about 15,000 consignments per day.
